When the Nudges Turn Into Knees
How often do we notice the nudges life gives us? You know the ones … where something keeps popping into our minds, but we do not think much of it until we hear it somewhere, and then somewhere else, and finally we hear it again and we are like, oh yeah, I want to focus on whatever that is I have been thinking about but have not really been paying much attention to.
Well, prayer has been heavy on my heart the last week, and by that I mean the way I pray. I have been praying for as long as I can remember (sometimes bolder than others). I grew up in a home where Jesus was at the center and church attendance was a regular occurrence on Sundays and Wednesdays. Now, Jesus is still the center and the main character in my life. But lately, I have really felt the pull to deepen my relationship in a way I have not before and prayer is at the top of the list.
This past Sunday … yes, Resurrection Sunday, Easter Sunday as others call it, something caught my attention that the preacher said. He said, “I spent 30 days praying on my knees,” and that really hit me. When I am deep in it and I mean truly in the deep, I do get on my knees, but in most of my daily praying, I do not. I tend to use my walks as my prayer time. But this really stood out to me because the week prior, during my workout with my trainer, I needed to drop to my knees during one of the final two rounds of planks, and she said something jokingly about that being what knees are for. I was like, “Yep, God gave us knees for planks because certainly most people are not using them for prayer.”
Well, you can imagine when the preacher said it, that it triggered an “aha” moment, and I was like, “Get on your knees, my child.” A lot has been going on this year, and in the midst of it all, I have been deep in prayer, but not on my knees, until now. You can bet that when the Lord calls me to get on my knees, He is up to something good, and I surrender all.
When you ask God for things like patience or courage, He will give you opportunities to be those things. When you ask for your family to be closer, He will give you opportunities to stand side-by-side together.
I cannot wait to see what He reveals and changes in me during this season of prayer and praise. He is so good all the time.
Also, prayer is on my vision board, so I am not surprised.
